Real-time server side object recognition for mobile devices

The video below presents a prototype of a real-time version of kooaba’s object recognition technology. A video stream from a mobile device is processed and recognized objects are highlighted with a bounding box on the mobile device. The data must be transmitted over Bluetooth or WiFi for now. Technologically the product is ready. What’s missing are widespread availability of cellphones with integrated WiFi, or new and faster data transmission technologies, such as WiMax and LTE.

The video illustrates kooaba’s ability to recognize a variety of objects, including covers and posters, packaging, and also larger 3D-objects such as buildings. The objects are labeled and tagged with relevant web-links. Pressing a button opens a browser and shows the related webpage for the object.
