Mobile Visual Search for the iPhone!
Fresh out of the kooaba labs: kooaba’s iPhone client!
It’s as easy to use as the iPhone itself: You see a movie poster you want to know more about (e.g. the feature Hancock): Just snap a picture using our new application and tap the search button. After the picture has been automatically sent and recognized you receive all relevant information about the movie such as the official trailer, reviews, information about the actors, or you can buy the soundtrack on the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store. No typing of search strings needed, no extensive browsing, just snap a picture instead! There is no faster way for mobile phones to get relevant information about real-world objects.
Below, we show a short video, which gives you a first impression of how the final application will look like on the iPhone 3G. The software will be available as a free download in the coming weeks.

The video below shows how to use the kooaba Search client to find movie trailers on youtube mobile directly from almost any recent movie poster. We currently hold tens of thousands of movie posters in our database, and Youtube recently ported most of it’s content to youtube mobile. A perfect combination.

Mobile Slideshows with 20 minutes
Readers of Switzerlands most popular tabloid, 20 minutes, have no the ability to interact with their newspaper. Using kooabas recognition service, readers can download MMS multimedia galleries for certain topics by taking a picture of the desired item and sending it by MMS to 20minutes. The response is a MMS slideshow including multiple additional pictures for the topic. The service currently runs daily in the edition of 20 minutes Romandie.

kooaba launches campaign with edipresse
In September 2007 Edipresse launched an innovative campaign in cooperation with kooaba: readers of the tabloid le matin bleu could choose among three prices to win. Taking a picture of the desired price and sending it by MMS was sufficient to participate. Each user received a confirmation specific to the object they had chosen.
The campaign was a huge success, probably one of the most successful MMS campaigns in Switzerland ever.

Client- and Server-Side Implementations
We have successfully ported the image recognition code to the Symbian Mobile Platform (Nokia 6630). Technically spoken, this means that visual feature extraction can now be implemented and run on mobile phones. Communication with the server happens via MMS.
For customers this leaves the choice of having either a server-side or client-side system.
